Job_Overview Job Summary Reporting to the School of Dentistry (SOD) Dean s Office Finance Director, the Finance and Grants Analyst will use their skills as a seasoned, experienced financial service professional with a full understanding of industry practices and organizational policies and procedure to support a wide range of financial activities. Such activities include but are not limited to purchasing, reconciliation, processing reimbursements, as well as routine and ad-hoc financial reporting including payroll and non-payroll projections. The Finance Analyst will oversee the School s gifts and endowments, including the financial management and coordination required for the student scholarships. They will also process a variety of monthly, quarterly and annual journals, manage the routine auditing of Departmental activities for proper usage of the UCSF chart of accounts, and support the financial reporting and budgeting for a number of the Dean s Office units/programs, including the Program for Craniofacial Biology, Global Oral Health, and the Office of Graduate Affairs. This position is responsible for independently preparing budget projections for the Principle Investigators (PIs) of the School s federal training grant an other private grants, working directly with the Controller s Office and Contracts and Grants Administration to process complex transactions, including tuition offsets and stipends, remedy discrepancies, and take corrective measures as needed. The individual assists with the full spectrum of pre to post award services for grants maintained by the School of Dentistry Dean s Office and must display the highest level of political acumen when working with confidential data. They will use skills as an experienced research administrator to independently develop and/or oversee research proposals, awards, and/or transactions related to contract and grant management and maintains contract and grant records in compliance with institutional research sponsor policies. They will work closely with the designated Principle Investigators on proposals and awards of diverse scope where analysis of data requires thorough understanding of complex regulations. The Analyst will be responsible for ensuring completion and proper approval of all transactions for signature by their manager or the PI; and may represent the School on campus committees and will serve as the primary backup to teammates on all Dean s Office finance-related responsibilities. Please note: This is a full time contract position ending on 8/31/2021. The Dental Center also aims to provide state of the art clinical experiences and education to students; deliver cost-effective patient care; and generate resources for reinvestment in the School of Dentistry s educational, clinical and scholarship missions. UCSF Dental Center s primar services include all advanced dental specialty programs, and the general dentistry and specialty faculty practices. A majority of the Dental Center clinical facilities are located at the Parnassus Campus, with affiliated clinics at Buchanan Dental Center and an additional presence at Mission Bay and the Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG). Required_Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Finance or related area and three to five years of relevant experience, and/or equivalent experience/training * At least two to three years of experience in fund accounting, financial transactions such as reimbursements and purchasing, and budgeting * Minimum two to three years of experience prioritizing and managing multiple projects simultaneously, following through on issues in a timely manner, meeting last minute requests efficiently and accurately, and responding quickly to conflicting priorities * Thorough knowledge of financial processes, policies and procedures * Thorough knowledge of financial data management and reporting systems * Strong proficiency in the use of spreadsheet and database software * Proven ability using excel spreadsheets and database software for financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports * Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment * Demonstrated experience on post-award management related to extramural funding from federal, state, local and public institutions * Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration * Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles * Demonstrated knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures and techniques * Leadership skills to provide guidance, coaching and mentoring to professional and support staff. Resourceful and contributes to improving operations, methods and procedures * Ability to independently gather required information to organize and perform financial analysis and assignments * Proven ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas * Strong interpersonal and analytical skills, service orientation, active listening, critical thinking, attention to detail, ability to multi-task in a high-volume environment, organizational skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, sound judgment and decision making; ability to develop original ideas to solve problems * Ability to function effectively as a member of a team. Ability to build and maintain excellent working relationships with stakeholders at all levels of an organization * Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
