Neustar, Inc. seeks a Distinguished Engineer in San Francisco, CA

Duties: Model complex problems, with a specific focus on the Internet of

Things (IoT) space. Discover insights and identify opportunities through

the use of statistical, algorithmic, data mining, inference, prediction,

and visualization techniques. Integrate and analyze large, varied datasets,

architect specialized database and computing environments, and communicate

results to business leaders. Conceive and develop future products for the

IoT group.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree (or higher) (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science,

Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field and three

(3) years of experience performing data analysis using machine learning.

Special Requirements:

Also requires demonstrated expertise (DE): utilizing statistical

techniques, including: Supervised and unsupervised learning, regression and

classification methods and their variants; Model generation, assessment and

selection; Decision tree based methods (including boosting and random

forests); SVM, k-nearest neighbors, self-organizing maps, neural networks

(“deep learning”); Dimension reduction techniques (PCA and ICA), and the

ability to work with high dimensional data; Sampling techniques; and

Hypothesis testing; DE in linear algebra, probability and optimization

techniques; DE building algorithms and data models for massive data

(multiple terabytes and larger) using MapReduce, Spark, Hive, and SQL in

both a research and production environment; DE ensuring accuracy of large

datasets, and anomaly / outlier detection, with regard to both structured

and unstructured data; DE performing programming in R, Python, and Matlab;

and DE translating requirements and communicating results to various

audiences, including clients’ executives and internal data teams.
